Bonus

The first thought that appears in mind with the word “Bonus” is something that does not belong to you, but you aspire for it. You strongly assume that you should have it because you deserve it. You have worked for hours to Months to achieve it. On the other hand, we do also have a group of staff, who believe in a law of attraction and keep thinking of Bonuses from hours to Months. But only a few are practical, who spend genuine time with bosses to attain this milestone and rarely found at their working desks.

On the appointment letter, it is written that the bonus depends on both company and individual performance. The majority of staff relies on company performance as another performance is suspicious. Bonus varies from company to company, some offer one basic salary + percentage of individual’s performance, where few giant multi-nationals companies offer even up to 4 salaries. These are the fringe benefits that people love to work for in large companies. In large companies, the employee is part of the machine, even he/she is left, the part can be replaced but the machine will not stop functioning. On some occasions, it is observed that large companies sack their hundreds to thousands of employees by shutting down the company’s branches. So, benefits and risks, both are with equal probability.

In current Covid days, the condition is not grassy. A plethora of companies are in a survival state and employees are urged to work in average or below-average salaries. Employees ‘ Expectations are changed and they need their job running with salary on time, even without Bonus money. Almost every company has done salary deduction in covid days. If still, guys are enjoying bonuses, they are lucky. They should be saving money, instead of spending on restaurants, vacations, and other investment activities. The first lesson Covid taught us that “Health is only Wealth” & the second, the only “friend” is Money. Those who are/were having fixed assets (not cash in hand) suffered a lot. Traditionally, there was a practice to invest money in real estate, purchasing bonds, saving certificates, or invest in long-term projects. Now people are watching their steps wisely.

The only advantage of Covid, we attained is “free time”. Every one of us must have availed it, but it is arguable that how you spent or still spending. Free time appeared as a blessing for workaholics. Workaholics may relate free time as their “Bonus”, which nature provided to them. The majority of us got time to invest with our families, loved ones, and friends. For some gentlemen, a bonus is to praise them and acknowledge their efforts. They are somewhat right as money is more for selfish activities that you spend on you and your family only. How many of us are privileged and spend money on others without any interest – “Selfless spending”. We should think of those who are not earning, hardly earning and needed “bonus” from us.

Promotion

Promotion is more difficult than finding a job. While in a job interview, you have candidates which are most probably not supposed to stay with you after hiring (If only one vacancy). In the case of promotion, there is a long queue of staff with their achievements, goals, and promotion demands, so competition is tough. You may negotiate salary at the time of getting hired, but asking for salary raise after joining the job, is like asking for a loan.

I do not want to remember that who told me that Hard work pays back. Yes, it pays back but not in monetary terms, rather more work is assigned. Some staff pays respect and a few assign titles on my back. Einstein’s quote “Try to become a man of value but not success”. I need to be successful to improve my financial stability. By the way, Einstein was already successful and I understand, he must have quoted it after becoming successful.

To become successful, I did hard work in every job, took an extra load of work, and delivered. In return, I asked for a promotion. I received the following replies from HR and Management.

1. Prove yourself! First thought that came to my mind as he is asking for my Semen Analysis.

2. Wait for few Months. After completion of that “few” Months, another month of waiting started, but no salary raises. Finally, Managers started asking me for days, weeks, and Months to complete my work.

3. Company’s condition is not good, already at a loss. We are thinking of downsizing. Ok, start from Top Management, the company will stable soon.

All companies are not cunning, few offered me a raise from 5 to 10 percent. But believe me, their managers were earning double to triple my salary. And they gave me a raise because I was underpaid. Another problem that I found in salary revision was workflow (Multiple approvals), especially in large companies. To increase 5% to 10% salary, the Board of Directors were involved in brainstorming – meetings, weeks, Months and calendar goes on. Finally, in one company, I told to HR Manager, leave it “Tujh say naa Hoga!” (You cannot do this!)  

One of my colleagues asked me Is it a myth that if you resign, you will get a raise or promotion?

Salary Negotiation

salarynegotiationI confess that I lack that soft skill of salary negotiation 😟. After passing multiple stages of interviews, when a candidate has lost almost his self-respect to prove his worth, 🥺 the negotiation phase arrives. I hardly bargain while purchasing so Negotiation is a hard job 😤 for me.

While purchase, I understand the seller keeps some margin of benefit for himself, so I should not ask much less price to him. He also has to earn bread and butter😮 and even the seller allows us to purchase at much  lesser prices. But in Corporate World, it is the Seller’s market. 😎 The employer has a lot of candidates in a pool and a plethora of talent available. I saw one ad offering 0.06 cents per word 🧐 and many have applied. Nothing to amaze, now in a few countries Oil is than water! 😐

HR practitioners seem to have a background in Vegetables wholesale market 🍆. Many companies ask about salaries of past, current, and expected. HR officials might be running their side hustle of providing data to marketing companies 😎. When a candidate has passed the required exams and interviews as per job requirements, offer him/her salary package as per the company pay scale.💰 Salary negotiation proofs that the company has weak Standards of operations (SOPs) and do not have a standard set of policies and procedures in place or the company is also suffering in covid days.

Yes, it is the universal truth that Salary packages are biased because of many reasons. In many countries, women🤵‍♀️ are paid less than men but I do not believe 🤥 that they are promoted during their probation period. Nepotism is cancer 🦀 in any industry and indirectly affects Employees’ productivity.

Sadly, It is been observed that Internationally Salary is offered based on passport colour (Nationality).🏞️ This is a reason that many Asians tend to obtain the nationality of western & European countries and prefer to work in the Middle East to earn luxury life. Their brown 🤎 and yellow 💛 race peers, (who have only one native nationality) jealous of them because they do the same job but with less money 💸. Thanks to God that nature distributed all human parts (heart, kidney, liver, and …🤔) equally to all mankind without any discrimination. 🙏

Interviews

Interviews are conducted to judge the skills, experience, and attitude of the candidates for a possible opportunity. Since my childhood, I have found to be more slavery mindset 😵. So, Taken Interviews are my basic instinct. It is obvious that the result of my Interviews matches with yours; mostly unsuccessful 😭. The rate of unsuccessfulness varies from person to person, but I never met any champion 🏆 who says his/her most of the Interviews are successful and got the job offer. Those statistics prove that Interviewer is smarter 😼 than you and asks the question that you do not know or could not answer in the way that intelligent interviewer was expecting from you.

After your successful hiring, When you came to know about the skills and qualities of the interviewer, you seriously start thinking about taking anger management 😠 classes. Nobody fights with the King of Jungle (Human Resources). HR Department is very supportive but at some points, they act very weird and their suspicious looks create anxiety 😟.

Few following examples of my encounters with the HR Team. One Interviewer asked me how do you see myself after 5 Years ? 🤔. If I were such a visionary 👁️, why would I apply for a little pennies job in your company? I just need that job at this time to run my daily expenses. Another question asked, why should we hire you? 🧐 This is something the Interviewer has to evaluate; I have answered all your questions; If I fit in your company and culture, hire me. Or the other answer to this question would be because your existing staff is not much capable 🤏 and I would add value to your business which they are not putting efforts. It means produce enemies in form of peers before getting on board. One question that I hate very much is What are your weaknesses?🕺Why; you want to screw me for the rest of my life? All these questions are supposed to be evaluated by Interviewer.

The above-asked questions were somewhat related to work. But what If the Interviewer asks why did you wear that particular color 🎨 for the Management role. Is there a connection of color with the Job role? Why your hairs are struggling to migrate towards the West ⬅️, where some of the hairs’ bunch of rebellions still pointing towards the North ⬆️? I could never comb my hair perfectly because of too silky and allergic to Gel 👶. Even on my wedding day, I was so embarrassed because of the over usage of gel application on my hair.

But HR is also a victim department. Nowadays HR is struggling to find competitive staff for their organizations. It is hard for them to hire the right candidate in 3-5 Interviews even. This is the reason most people get the job from references than the traditional job hiring process. So be social 🤝, meet the people even if you do not like them, praise them and sell your skills.🙏

Transit Managers

I came to know about one organization where Managers do not stay for long and left either for Good or Bad. I could not figure out who was cursed 😩 company or Managers. I heard and read the quote many times that If your boss is bad, leave the company, but this time Bosses were leaving the company 😱 intentionally or unintentionally both. Nobody talks about this innocent community.

Before understanding the pain 🤒of Managers, would like to highlight Company Organization structure. It was Multi-bosses’ organization from CEO to Departments’ Presidents Levels with staff of around 350 employees. It was like 3 Managers for 1 Employee. 🤓

I do not know that how many successors Managers so far now company achieved, but I only would share 5 Managers along with my free evaluation.😑

First Manager 😎
Leader, Experienced, strong personality, best communication skills. He stayed only for around 8 Months and implemented couple of Projects successfully. But his pain was less salary. He was under impression that his salary package is low 🤏 comparably to his mates in the same company and industry. He might right, so he left for Good!

Second Manager 😈
His successor, skillful, talented but with poor communication and leadership skills. He could not create a good team and conflicts 😵 arises among them. Secondly, Top Management did not trust him. He was terminated after around 1 Year, so pain was given to him by Company.

Third Manager 😟
Decent, Social, Good communication skills but without leadership and less talented as required for his job. It is nice to have such people in life as a friend, but for work ? So, he left after One Year. Poor guy 🐰

Fourth Manager 🙂
After testing all above 3, Management decided to promote the in-house staff 🙋 to Management Post. He was talented, Leader, good communication skills. He worked with them for 2 Years successfully. But company was not paying him Managerial level package. So, his pain was also less money and he left for good.

How can company retain good employees with them. If those who are hired and not competent, provide them training? Questions to HR Officials. 🙏

Micro Manager

One of my Manager was highly interested in me. Even he could not realize that I oppose his gender 😕. In fact, that poor guy was Micro Manager. Micro Managers dedicate their life to  adjust the abnormalities of corporate World using their raw hands. 😎

I assume that in early 90s, Microsoft adopted the idea of Multitasking from Micro Managers but Microsoft had no idea that it will also lead to Windows crashing ⚡ like employee’s productivity. Good fortunately, Windows has End Task feature to restart the application, but how to regain Employees’ Mood 😍 and the productivity they lost during inspection.

After couple of weeks, I found that my newly boss is also a victim 🤢 and found following symptoms in him;

  • After assigning task to me, he kept shadowing 👀 on me as I am handing over work to him for my Annual Leave. 💤
  • Analysed the fonts & design of Power Point Presentation repeatedly and asked for change ultimately. If all the tasks are by his wish, Hire Robots, why is needed immortal humans ☠️
  • He was his favourite 🐒, who wanted to be in a frame of control and power over his employees.
  • He forced us to socialize 💻 on FB & instagram, but not in office with colleagues as it effects on productivity.
  • One thing I must admit about him  that he never asked our devices passwords 🔑, which saved many of us jobs and he could not hunt the treasure inside our computers.

Why do not they clone 🐴🐴themselves.

My First Job :)

I was both; excited and happy 😁, but not because that I started earnings. The reason was that my dream came true. I was always curious to start a job and to experience corporate life, but had no idea that office is not like an institute (school or college)

The main difference between institute and office is that you are getting paid for your time and Management knows how to make your services cashable 😔. 

If I remember correctly, that was Month of October and I started as Trainee Computer Programmer. My job was in Industrial Area, which was far from my home.

That was also my first experience of visiting industrial area, totally different 🌎. Giant smoking villas, which are called as factories. Secondly, I was launched at Leather factories, too much smelly 😣. 

My pick and drop service was by my first Godfather, whose reference landed me to this job. More than work, sitting in the same place from 8 am to 6 pm was painful. And there I realized why people used to play computer games in Windows. How to bring productivity ? When there is no work. Arghh.., Who made office timings ? 😠

In early days, colleagues used to analyze me so intensely as I thought their tasks is to find my soulmate in company 😍. I also did sense that Management is suspicious about their decision of my hiring. To be honest, I was agreed with Management at this point 😐.

Staff productivity was dependable on season, timings, days and city events. Most of the staff were so efficient near to their vacation days, weekends and break times. 

I worked there for few Months and left for my graduation exams. Life was confused, I was Trainee for computer and was studying business 😇
